CHRIST UNIVERSAL TEMPLE
MULTI-FAITH VETERAN INITIATIVE SITE
Christ Universal Temple (CUT) is a partner site with the DePaul University Multi-
Faith Veteran Initiative that operates out of the University’s Egan office of Urban
Education and Community Social Service Partnerships. The Christ Universal
Temple Multi-Faith partnership site’s demographic boundaries cover South of
Madison Avenue to all areas southeast and southwest to the South Suburbs, as well
as to the Northwest Indiana border (areas covering Hammond, Highland Burn
Harbor, East Chicago, Griffith, Hobart, Munster, Merrillville, Schererville,
Portage, Whiting, Cedar Lake, Winfield, Gary, and other Indiana bordering cities).
The Christ Universal Temple site currently operates two programs for Veterans.
The Multi-Faith Veteran Initiative’s goal is to collaborate with behavioral health,
community organizations and other service providers, as stakeholders, in
supporting Veterans and their families transition from military service to civilian
life, as well as address moral injury and PTSD in Veterans. Further, Christ
Universal Temple’s aim is to be a community hub to engage with and serve
Veterans and Veteran families; to provide support around issues that include, but
are not limited to, isolation, transition and re-entry into civilian life, and address
spiritual and moral issues arising out of their experiences while in the Armed
Forces. The overall program is for all Veterans and their families, and is currently
funded by a McCormick Foundation grant.
In addition, within the Veterans Initiative, Christ Universal Temple is also a hub
for the Boeing Foundation’s grant for the “Women Veterans Wellness Project”.
The Christ Universal Temple site’s name for the program is “Women Veterans We
Rise.” In this program our goal is to recognize effective strategies for identifying
and recruiting, supporting, and retaining Women Veterans. This program also
strives to address the Women Veterans’ unique and different experiences while
serving in the Armed Forces, which include Military Sexual Trauma (MST), sexual
harassment, isolation, homelessness, unemployment, moral injury, PTSD,
reintegration into their families and general societal biases.
In both of Christ Universal Temple’s site programs, we seek to provide a
community of holistic support, connection, learning experiences and trust.
